Meeting of the Board of Supervisors at their office, 200 E. Bridge St,
Elkader, IA
Present: Larry Gibbs, Wayne Bockenstedt, Randy Keehner
Mike Tschirgi, County Sheriff, discussed the situation with the loss of
two deputies and scheduling that is causing overtime pay which is
costing $450/wk in overtime pay. The Supervisors discussed scheduling
and the number of deputies on duty at any one time and the number of
deputies other counties have. Workload was discussed by the Sheriff
regarding the number of calls, types of calls, hours of service of city
police departments, etc. Academy training expense of a replacement
officer was discussed by the Supervisors.
Motion by Bockenstedt, seconded by Keehner, to delay decision on hiring
of a replacement deputy sheriff for 30 days until the budget for fiscal
year ending June 30, 2011 is prepared. Ayes: Gibbs, Bockenstedt, Keehner
Motion by Keehner, seconded by Bockenstedt, to approve the renewal of a
beer permit to Kwik Star #711, Monona. Ayes: Gibbs, Bockenstedt, Keehner
Alan and Connie Ruff discussed the minutes of January 6, 2009, regarding
the situation of Ivy Lane. A written statement was presented as an
amendment to the minutes of the Board and a discussion ensued. The
County Engineer stated that he would like to see the gate removed as
allowed in the Class “C” ordinance. The situation with the snowmobilers
was discussed regarding the locking of the gate. A letter has been sent
to adjoining landowners regarding the possible change of Class “C” to
Class “B”. The Board and County Engineer would like to see the response
to that letter before doing anything. The Ruffs wanted the January of
2010 sending of the letter to Greg Koether regarding a fencing
encroachment along Ivy Lane to be recorded in the minutes.
Motion by Keehner, seconded by Bockenstedt, to maintain the minutes of
January 6, 2009, as written and approved. Ayes: Gibbs, Bockenstedt,
Keehner
