Meeting of the Board of Supervisors at their office, 200 E. Bridge St, Elkader, IA.

Present:  Wayne Bockenstedt, Randy Keehner    Absent:  Larry Gibbs (attending meeting)

 

The board canvassed the votes from the special election held on May 22, 2007, regarding extending the school infrastructure local option sales tax until December 31, 2022.  The results were as follows:

 

Public Measure B “Shall the following public measure be adopted?

 

A previously imposed local sales and services tax for school infrastructure projects shall be extended in the County of Clayton at the rate of one percent.  The tax will be extended until December 31, 2022.

 

The money received from the tax shall be spent for school infrastructure, including purchasing, building, furnishing, reconstructing, repairing, demolishing, improving, expanding, or remodeling of a schoolhouse or schoolhouses and additions thereto, gymnasium, athletic facilities, field house, or school bus garage, purchasing and improving grounds, opening roads to schoolhouses or buildings, the purchase, lease or lease-purchase of buildings or equipment (including transportation and recreation equipment) as authorized by law, procuring or acquiring libraries, expenditures for energy conservation measures, the rental of facilities under Chapter 28E, for public educational and recreational activities, the payment or retirement of bonds issued for school infrastructure purposes or the payment or retirement of bonds issued under Iowa Code Section 423E.5, for debt reduction or property tax relief, or for any one or more of such purposes, or for any purpose or purposes now or hereafter authorized by law.

The voter turnout was 5.27%.

 

Wally Rowcliffe inquired about the status of two mobile homes in his RV court.  He will wait till after the Treasurer’s Tax Sale in June to see what happens with the mobile homes.

 

Motion by Keehner, seconded by Bockenstedt, to enter into a contract with the Clayton County Genealogical Society for preservation of certain county records.
