Meeting of the Board of Supervisors at their office, 200 E. Bridge St., Elkader, IA. Present: Robert Walke, Neil Meyer, Larry Gibbs
A public hearing was held regarding a zoning classification change for A-1 to C-1 requested by Curt Welch on approximately 3.17 acres located in Lot 4 of Lot 1 in the SW ¼ NW ¼ of section 22, T95N, R4W, in Giard Township to permit the construction of storage units. The minutes of the Planning & Zoning Commission from the October 25th meeting were present. Jerry Hoilien and Wayne Mielke were opposed to the location of the storage units. Jerry Hoilien, Curt Welch and Mike Oberbroeckling, Zoning Administrator, were present to discuss their position toward the rezoning. The public hearing was closed at 10:15 A.M. Motion by Walke, seconded by Gibbs, to delay action on the rezoning request until November 2, 2005, at 9:55 A.M. to allow the Board of Supervisors time to view the proposed site. Ayes: Walke, Meyer, Gibbs
No action was taken on the request from Pattison Brothers MRT, Inc., regarding a zoning classification change from A-1 to M-2 to allow mining, process, store and ship silica sand due to the fact it was tabled by the Planning and Zoning Commission until their November 8, 2005, meeting.
Motion by Gibbs, seconded by Walke, to make the following proclamation: Northeast Iowa Tobacco Awareness Week 2005 WHEREAS, studies show that tobacco is a harmful substance to both uses and non-users; WHEREAS, more people need to become aware of the dangers of smoking, other tobacco use and secondhand smoke; NOW THEREFORE, WE, THE CLAYTON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS do hereby proclaim that November 13th through the 19th, 2005, as Northeast Iowa Tobacco Awareness Week in Clayton County. As public officials, we also call upon all citizens, parents, governmental agencies, public and private institutions, churches, businesses, and schools in our county join us in raising awareness of tobacco issues in its various forms, talking with youth and adults about not starting to use tobacco, asking tobacco users to quit, not smoke around other nonsmokers, and to share with others about the dangers of tobacco use and secondhand smoke.
