Position: elected to four year terms
The County Treasurer is the depository of all monies due the county, crediting and disbursing the same upon warrants issued by the County Auditor from the designated funds, and makes semiannual financial reports to the Board of Supervisors. This office also registers vehicles and mobile homes. The following are some of the duties of the County Treasurer:
Assess omitted real property not assessed by the Assessor, Board of Review or the County Auditor
Collect all taxes certified by the County Auditor and apportion them to the cities, schools, townships, and county funds accordingly to their proper share and make payment to them
Publish the delinquent tax list in June
Annually, on the third Monday in June offer for public sale all real estate taxes which have not been paid
Collect all special assessments issued by the cities for sewers, paving or street improvements and remit payment to them
Issue Distress Warrants to the Sheriff to collect delinquent buildings on leased land property tax by the levy
Issue tax deeds for property taxes bought at the tax sale and not redeemed within the time required by law
Report to the United States Department of Commerce
Issue all motor vehicle plates and renewals to residents of county
Issue duplicate titles for motor vehicles
Record all security interests on motor vehicles
Transfer ownership of all motor vehicles
Collect Use Tax on all motor vehicles purchased
Make payment to the State of Iowa of all monies collected on motor vehicles except fees which are retained for county use
Reduce the yearly fee on autos after the fifth registration
Issue driver's licenses
