Position: appointed to six year terms
The office of County Assessor was created
in the 1947 session of the Iowa Legislature. At the same time the elective office
of city and township assessor was abolished. The assessor is appointed by the Conference
Board. The following are some of the duties of the County Assessor:

Assess all the
taxable property within the county as provided by law

Cooperate with
and work with the Iowa Department of Revenue & Finance as required by law

Access & examine
all public records of the county to obtain information which may contribute
to the accurate listing of taxable property
-
Apply to district
court for orders to examine witnesses and require the production of books and
records of any person, firm, association, or corporation with the county whenever
he has reason to believe that such action will lead to the accurate listing
of taxable property.
